Arrival on Sunday and departure on Friday leave you with sufficient time for a number of outstanding nature and food experiences in Jotunheimen.
Alternatively you can book a 3 nights stay with the arrival day of your choice.
Monday: Skaget, 1686 m
In Øystre Slidre three mountains stick out more than rest, with their own identity and looks. We talk about the characteristic Bitihorn north of Beitostølen, the hat shaped Rundemellen – and the 1686 m high Skaget, also called the “local Kilimanjaro”. Skaget is the highest of the three and can be recognized from far away.
From Storeskag a path leads up under the steep south face. From here the route turns right up to the lowest saddle to the right of the summit. Small cairns lead the way first across alpine meadows and later stones to the ridge that leads to the summit point.
Duration: 2 hours – Difficulty: 2 boots

Tuesday: Knutshø, 1517 m
Knutshø is a ridge-shaped mountain that looks like a dragon’s back, situated between the lakes Gjende and Leirungen. We drive across the Valdresflya high plateau and park the car at Vargebakkan. To begin with it’s a couple of kilometers easy terrain until the start of the steep and slightly exposed ascent to the top of the ridge. Once there, the trail is easy and offers the most rewarding views down to the Leirungen lakes, one on each side. The last bit to the summit point is steep and may seem threatening at first, but upon closer encounter it turns out surprisingly. Many people regard Knutshø to be even more beautiful and diverse than the famous hike across Besseggen, and there is a rumor that Henrik Ibsen really meant Knutshø and not Besseggen in his drama “Peer Gynt”.
Duration: 5-6 hours – Difficulty: 3 boots

Wednesday: Store Nuten 1541 m and visit of the mountain pasture
Wednesday is a day of recovery before the hardest tour on Thursday. But we need to move our bodies a little bit. So we drive to the Valdresflya and take a nice and easy walk up to the high point of Store Nuten wich offers a great panorama view to Jotunheimen, Rondane and Lake Vinstervatn with the characteristic Bitihorn in the background. Afterwards we stroll downhill to our mountain pasture, where sour cream mush and salt meat is served – a traditional norwegian dish. The afternoon is at your disposal.
Duration 3 hours + time spent on the pasture - Difficulty: 2 boots

Thursday: Ascent of the Rasletind, 2105 m
We start at the Valdresflya Vandrerhjem. First we cross the Valdresflya before we ascend up into the high valley Raslet. The last bit to the summit of Norway’s easiest 2000-meter-mountainis is a little bit steeper, but not difficult.
Duration: 7-8 hours – Difficulty: 4 boots

Frequently asked questions
Øyvind Grønolen answers questions frequently asked by our guests.
How long are the hiking tours?
- We don’t really count the kilometers, but rather go as far as we get. Normally a tour starts at half past nine in the morning, and we’re back around five in the evening.
Do I have to join all the tours if I join a tour program?
- No, not at all. You decide for yourself which hikes you want to join.
How many participants are there on a hiking tour?
- We don’t have any fixed limits as to how many we accept. Usually our groups consist of 20-25 people.
Do I have to be top trained to be able to come along?
- You have to be in a reasonable good condition. This means you should have some hiking experience, but you don’t have to be anywhere near a top trained athlete.
Do I need professional gear?
- No. A pair of good hiking boots is the most important. Besides that you need normal outdoor clothing for various weather conditions, ranging from shorts and t shirt to a full rain gear.
Can I bring children?
- That’s no problem. We don’t have a lower age limit, but the children should be used to hiking in mountain terrain as some of the tours can be somewhat demanding.
