Mountain tour and Gourmet weekend – 18.-20. September:

The weekend 18.-20. September is reserved for you who love both the mountains and good food but can’t afford to spend a whole week.

You arrive on Friday afternoon to a good dinner followed by coffee and cake.

On Saturday your host Tor Erik accompanies you on a fantastic mountain hike while his brother Øyvind stays at home in the kitchen to prepare a real experience of a meal – a five course gourmet dinner with tastes from the Norwegian fell nature.

On Sunday you are welcome to make yourself a lunch package and set out for a hike on your own before you leave.

Rate NOK 2.450,- per person in double room which includes the whole stay, all meals and a guided mountain hike. Hiking time: 10-12 hours

Groups of 15 persons or more can order this package at any time throughout the season.

”Five Summits” – 5 two-thousand-meter summits – 30.7.-02.08.:

The weekend from 30th of July till the 2nd of August we offer two demanding but marvellous hikes in the Høgdebrotet/Tjørnholstind-region. You arrive on Thursday evening and are ready for two challenging hikes of 10-12 hours each on Friday and Saturday. For this program you have to be fit!

All overnights at Grønolen Fjellgard. Hiking time: 10-12 hours per day.

Rate per person in double room NOK 3.750,- which includes the whole stay, all meals and two guided mountain hikes.

”Seven Summits” – 7 two-thousand-meter summits in 2 days – 23.07.-26.-07.:

The weekend from 23. - 26. of July we offer two demanding but marvellous hikes to the Kalvehøgde massif and the Store Knutsholstind with an overnight stay at Torfinnsbu (simple mountain hut standard). You arrive at Thursday evening and are ready for two challenging hikes of 10-12 hours each on Friday and Saturday. For this program you have to be fit!

Two overnights at Grønolen Fjellgard and one at Torfinnsbu. Hiking time: 10-12 hours per day.

Rate per person in double room NOK 3.750,- which includes the whole stay, all meals and two guided mountain hikes.

Hiking with guide 2009 – weeks 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 37:

The Grønolen brothers have designed a tour program with everything from the highest mountain tops of the region via canyoning to a traditional lunch at the family pasture on the banks of the Vinstervatn Lake. Arrival on Sunday and departure on Friday should give you enough time for some of the finest nature and food experiences.

Sunday: Arrival to a lovely 3-course dinner with coffee and cake. Afterwards we gather for an information talk about the tour program with practical advice, tips and answers to your questions.

Monday: Tour to Mugnetind 1750 m. Hiking time: 4-5 hours

Tuesday: Around the Skyrifjell 1548 m. Hiking time: 6 hours

Wednesday: Store Nuten 1541 m. and visit to the pasture. Hiking time 3 hrs + time at the pasture

Thursday: Tour to Bukkehamaren 1910 m. Hiking time: 7-8 hours

Friday: Departure after breakfast – unless you decide to prolong your stay and do more hikes on your own.

”Fishing i Vallers”

Period: 5. June – 15. September Up here in the mountains there’s almost constant fishing luck, and after a fishing trip to Lake Vinstervatn almost always a fine trout or two accompany you home.

Take a buddy, your better half, children or grandchildren – and go fishing.

Rakfisk weekend – 06.-08. November:

In connection with the Rakfisk festival at Fagernes, 6.-8. November, we offer a weekend under the star of the rakfisk (fermented fish, a local speciality, traditionally served with potatoes, raw onion, lefse, which is a kind of potato pancake, and beer or aquavit). You arrive on Friday evening to a rakfisk buffet with fish from different producers.

On Saturday after breakfast you go to Fagernes by bus. Rakfisk is the main attraction, but there is much more to see, taste and experience, like all sorts of fine food from local producers (moose sausage, for instance), hand crafts and a bit of a crowd – just as a festival should be.

In the evening you get back to a culinary experience – a five course gourmet dinner.

On Sunday a good, long lasting breakfast will be served before departure.

Some things in life never change. Come rain or shine, come crises or happy times – Christmas always comes as it always has. And with so many things changing and an unpredictable future we just may appreciate the traditions and values represented by Christmas more and more. Here at Grønolen everything is set for a Christmas in line with the finest traditions. As always, the snow lies heavy and quiet and the nocturnal skies are starry and clear. Inside the fire crackles in the fire place while our own chef, Øyvind, makes the good, home made Christmas food. This year we would like to offer you a break in the busy time before Christmas. The winter paradise Beitostølen awaits you with all sorts of activities for big and for small. We on our part have created a Christmas-Dinner-package that should make both your palate and wallet happy:

Invitation to an Advent “palate ride” – 04.-06. December:

We would like to invite you to a snug Advent weekend with fine Christmas food and drinks.

You arrive on Friday evening to a Christmas buffet with a rich choice of fine home made food – yes, of course, there will be rakfisk from Valdres (fermented fish, a local speciality), brawn, lefse (potato pancakes), lamb roll, rib, pinnekjøtt (“stick meat”, salted, dried and steamed lamb), Christmas cookies and cakes and other typical Christmas food.

On Saturday you wake up to a solid breakfast and go for a walk or a ski tour or do whatever you like. There will be served a light lunch, and maybe you would like to relax in our well-being-centre afterwards. In the evening it’s time for the big “palate ride” – a 5 course gourmet menu where the chef really has done his share to create a tasty and unforgettable meal.

On Sunday morning there is again a good breakfast before you leave.

This is meant as an idea for a different Christmas, almost like in the Norwegian Christmas fairytales. When the hotel is closed over the Christmas holidays you and your family can stay in our comfortable apartments and celebrate Christmas. You are completely self-contained, while you have an axe and a sleigh to your disposal to go into the woods and find and fell your own Christmas tree. Then you can create your very own Christmas, in surroundings even Santa couldn’t wish for better.

The end of the old and the beginning of the New Year are supposed to be among the best days of the year. Nature itself is host to all the things you can use the winter landscape for. ”Family-expedition” with dog sleighs

To join this expedition you don’t need to be Lars Monsen. This is a thrilling experience in a winter wonderland for the whole family.

We offer a complete package from Friday to Sunday. The dog sleigh tour itself takes place on Saturday. We get started at the Kennel of Beito Husky Tours, which is an attraction in itself. Most people get impressed by how friendly and good tempered the dogs are and the children just love to cuddle and play with the pups. The guide gives a thorough introduction on how to ride a dog sleigh with high focus on safety. Afterwards we choose the dogs and harnesses for our team. And when all teams are ready, we head off…
When the ride is over, we gather around the fire in the lavvo (a kind of tipi) where warm drinks and a bit to eat is serverd.

The duration of the trip is about three hours, depending on the snow conditions and the weather. Transport to and from the Kennel can be arranged.

For the winter holidays we can offer a fantastic net of ski tracks for back country and cross country skiing as well as downhill slopes for all ages and skills. The Beitostølen area is the perfect destination for a family holiday. There are all sorts of winter activities, we arrange guided mountain ski tours (if the weather permits it) and the activity hosts engage the children in the afternoons and evenings. There’s always a fire burning in the fireplace and tasty homemade food on the table. In other words: A winter holiday just as it should be.

The package includes accommodation in a family room for two adults and one child (7-15 years), half board and ski pass for two days.

Guided ski tours: Sunday 21.03. – Thursday 25.03.10

There’s a special silence over the winter mountains – just the sound of your skis can be heard. Here you are far away from haste and stress. Let your thoughts wander, feel the wind in your face and be aware that you’re living.

We glide over high plateaus and hilly forest terrain. We might see a ptarmigan and tracks after hare and fox. The winter mountains hold many a secret which they might share with the observing visitor. And we make sure that you get to see the very best of what they can offer. Back again you go straight to a laid table with fine traditional food waiting.

From the breakfast buffet you make your own lunch package and get your thermos bottle filled with warm tee or coffee. The ski trips require that you have good skis.

Back country skis can be rented at Beitostølen (please notify us when booking). All participants must have a windproof jacket with hood (hardshell), windproof trousers (hardshell), a good and warm hat and mittens with windproof outer layer, sun glasses and a daypack for your lunch package, thermos and an extra set of clothes. Gaiters are recommended.

The classic Easter holiday

Beitostølen is the ultimate destination to experience the real norwegian way of an Easter holiday: White plateaus with a fantastic, wide spread net of cross country ski tracks for cross country and back country skiing. Downhill slopes for all ages and skills. Blue skies (at least we hope so) and tanning sun as well as oranges and chocolate in your daypack…

At Grønolen we make sure you and your family experience the perfect Easter holiday. We have lots of snow activities for both adults and children. With the small children we grill bread and sausages on the fire, go sled sliding and do other fun activities. And for the fittest we arrange guided mountain ski trips off the beaten track (if the weather permits it).

Indoors, there’s always a fire burning in the fireplace and fine homemade food on the table.
