June 5th The Norwegian Fjell Marathon (Det Norske Fjellmaraton) 2010

Welcome to the 31st «mountain adventure» on June 5th. As hosts of the event we constantly meet new challenges. Not only do we have to deal with unstable weather gods, but also with decreasing popularity of jogging. But we do our very best for «The mountain adventure» – Det Norske Fjellmaraton – to be «the most beautiful adventure in spring» for as many as possible.
To achieve this we plan to improve the fram around the event, with a more varied and broader activity menu to choose from in addition to the marathon itself. This, we hope, will result in increasing popularity and higher number of participants in «The mountain adventure» – The Norwegian Fjell Marathon.
On Sunday there might be time for a skiing tour on the Valdresflya high mountain plateau, where the snow tends offer good skiing conditions way into June…
We do hope that you will have an outstanding experience this year and that we may welcome you back next year as well. If there’s anything you think we could do better, please let us know. And if you’ve had a good time we hope that you’ll tell your friends!
Our goal is: Everybody shall have a great time at «The mountain adventure» – The Norwegian Fjell Marathon!

July 3rd World premiere at Beitostølen!
The world’s largest Troll theme park, The Realm Of The Trolls, is to be opened at Beitostølen. On July 3rd, the doors open to a fantastic, 2000 sqm indoor fairy tale of trolls and dwarfs.
Walking through the doors into The Kingdom Of The Trolls is like entering a totally different world. Here you can experience trolls and dwarfs within the most fantastic settings inspired by the Norwegian folk fairy tales by Asbjørnsen og Moe among others.
In The Kingdom Of The Trolls, several hundreds of mechanical trolls and dwarfs in the most fantastic settings are to be seen, from very romantic to horrific. The visitor will have an utstanding experience!
Several of the mechanical décors can be started by the visitor. The absolute highlight is the hall of the mountain king (Dovregubbens hall) when the mountain slowly opens and you can look right into the hall where all the court’s trolls, dwarfs and other creatures banquet with the troll king.
The people behind The Kingdom Of The Trolls are the two artists Anette Phillipsen and John Roger and their capable staff with 26 years experience of making mechanical figures. Besides big Christmas displays in Scandinavia and Japan the two artists also contributed to building one of Denamrks most popular theme parks, BONBON LAND (Candy land).

Santa park
In 1983 Anette Phillipsen and John Roger started their Santa company as a silent protest against the big shopping centers of Copenhagen not displaying mechanical christmas decorations any more.
In the middle of the nineties they came up with the concept of the «world’s biggest Christmas display».
This concept was first presented in 1996 at the Christmas marked at Copenhagen’s Tivoli and immediately became a huge success. Later they exhibited their unique hand made mechanical santas in their fantastic settings at displays at Scandinavias largest amusemant park, Liseberg in Gothenburg, and Spica in Sapporo.
In 2002 they opened the world’s largest and nicest Santa park of 1500 sqm in beautiful Western Zealand, Denmark.
All their life Anette and John have had a special fondness for Norway and annually spend two vacations, summer and winter, there. During those trips the idea of establishing a genuine Troll park in Norway was born. The challenge lay in finding the right location, and with Beitostølen at the doorstep of the Jotunheimen Mountains they think they have found just that. After all, Jotunheimen is the home of the trolls, so it couldn’t be better.
Anette and John look very much forward to open The Kingdom Of The Trolls and welcome their visitors in Beitostølen. «It’s like coming home,» the two artists say.

July 15th to 24th ”The Story About The Icepeople” (norw. Sol av Isfolket)
It’s the big happening on the open air stage at the museum of local history at Fagernes, the Valdres Folkemuseum, casting Paul Ottar Haga and Heidi Ruud Ellingsen among others.
The Story About The Icepeople is the story of the young girl Sol and her dramatic life. She’s a descendent of the evil Tengel who once sold his soul to Satan. To earn earthly riches he sacrificed at least one person in every generation who would be born with witch powers and was to serve Satan. Since then the icepeople lived a desolated life and were hated and feared until the inquisition came with its iron grip and witch fires. Margit Sandemo, who wrote The Story About The Icepeople, is from Valdres and will always remain the great daughter of the region, even if she lives and writes in Sweden for the time being. At an age of 83 years Margit still is a productive writer and the queen of light fiction in Scandinavia.
